CCR
The CCR: from concept to realisation
This is useless to find an aerodynamic optimized configuration if it's unrealisable on
a structural mechanical point of vue.
Let's take the example of a foil: If you only look at some aerodynamic considerations, the
foil
should thicker as possible. But during a run, forces generate some huge momentum. The structure
must be able to accept it, so the foil must have a minimum thickness.
Result: We have two antagonistic criterions !!!
To solve this problem, we are making a "numerical chain" which is composed by the following:
- Using a finite-element code (CASTEM 2000) with an automatic mesh generation and a usefull
post-processing in order to make parametric studies.
- Quickly test new boat's configurations by calculating the boat's structural
response to the aerodynamic and hydrodynamic forces.
